Honda Manufacturing of Alabama expanded its engine facilities in 2006 to machine crankshaft and connecting rod engine parts. Precision Engineering's scope of work was to provided software to provide the following functionality: track parts and process history, record Part measurements, return quality and next process Data to PLC controls, and interface results to plant wide quality system. The project consisted of writing a highly configurable OPC client that communicated with redundant Takebisih OPC Servers and Mitsubishi PLCs. The Crankshaft line consisted of 21 Mitsubishi PLC's and approximately 80 process points. The Connecting rod line will consisted of 17 Mitsubishi PLC's and approximately 26 process points. The OPC servers communicated via MelsecNet with Mitsubishi PLC's. Technologies used included Takebishi OPC Servers, Kepware Redundancy Master, VB.NET, ASP.NET, Websphere Business Integrator, and Microsoft SQL Databases.
