UOP Corporation is an industry leader in process systems design and manufacture of specialty adsorbents and refining catalysts. Precision Engineering Inc. has an enterprise agreement in place with UOP to perform all DCS/PLC automation projects for the corporation in the United States and Europe. The Line 15 project was a grass-roots expansion ($27 million total installed cost) of the corporations' Mobile, Alabama facility. This project is typical of several projects that PEI has successfully engineered for the UOP Corporation. On this project, we provided engineering, design, construction management, loop checkout, and start-up support for the installation of a Honeywell TDC 3000 control system. The project consisted of adding five GUS workstations, approximately 50 process graphics (native and GUS) and 1,000 I/O points to an existing Honeywell Local Control Network (LCN). We utilized Honeywell's Batch Supervisory System 45, an ISA S88 compliant software package for configuration of the new batch process. The batch process consisted of approximately 30 unit procedure level recipes with each containing approximately 20 CL based control phases. The project scope also included providing an enterprise link to SAP and the plant Oracle database utilizing a Honeywell AxM (HP9000). We also provided two other support systems as a part of this project. These systems are Siemens PLC based and are used for product packaging and a dense phase transfer system. These PLC systems are tightly integrated with the Honeywell DCS.
